Welcome to Gelato Village
Gelato Village began in 2014. It was founded by Antonio De Vecchi and Daniele Taverna. Originally from Turin, Antonio and Daniele care deeply about crafting the real Italian gelato Leicester previously lacked.
Antonio was trained at the Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy. He uses the traditional ‘Mantecazione’ method to create fine gelato at the in-store Gelato Laboratory. He develops every recipe himself and loves to experiment with new flavours and combinations. Antonio trials new products throughout the year, so you will always find something new to try.
Antonio and Daniele insist on using the highest quality materials to create authentic gelato. They never use artificial preservatives, flavourings or emulsifiers. This means the gelato is a natural product. Gelato uses more milk than cream, so it is lower in fat than ice cream. There is an average of only 170 calories per 100g of gelato and 110 in sorbetto.
Why is this the gelato Leicester wants?
At Gelato VIllage, we take time to find the best ingredients. They can be local or global. All of our milk and cream comes from rare breed Red Poll cows at the Belvoir Ridge Creamery near Melton Mowbray. We believe that this is the secret ingredient that adds awesome flavour to our gelato.
We also source beautiful pistachios from Sicily. These pistachios are some of the finest in the world. Our lemons come direct from the farmer on the Amalfi Coast. Both of these ingredients have protected status.
Notably you will find a rainbow of ingredients and flavours at Gelato Village. Throughout the year we observe seasonality and local availability. This makes sure every cone and tub of gelato Leicester buys tastes as good as it possibly can. Our products are fresh, meaning we never sell anything that is over 72 hours old. However, it is rare for a pan of gelato to last that long!
